Installation Instructions:

Click on the link below to download the install pack to your PC. Save the file in a location that you can find. Unzip the file using your favorite ZIP utility. The ZIP archive is password protected. You will need the password to unzip the file. Open the *.exe and the setup program will install the software on your PC. Follow the prompts. Current subscribers can email themselves the password.

Notes on VISTA Install:

• The user running the install must have administrative privileges (be a member of the administrator group).
• Only the user that runs the setup will see the DVD Register installation
• It is recommended that the user running the DVDR in production have administrative privileges.

Choosing an Install Pack:

• If you have a retail version of Microsoft Access already installed on the PC then download Pack No. 1. Access is normally part of Office Professional.
• If you need Access, the download Pack No. 2 which includes a royalty-free run time version of Miscrsoft Access 2003.

KNOWN BUGS:  

BUG FIXES:  

• When running under Access 2007 and Vista, when the Image Grid was opened Access 2007 would crash. This is due to an apparent incompatibility to this configuration in the 3 rd Party ImgX Printer Control. The form was changes so that when this form is opened in Access 2007, the printer control is not instantiated on the form. The printer tab and print button are made invisible. This change prevents the crash but eliminates the capability to print the image grid when running under Access 2007.
• When running under Access 2007 some users have reported unusual instability. For example certain actions such as inserting text into a memo field would cause Access to freeze. This build was processed with AccessFix. AccessFix is a third party utility that reads an Access file and then repairs any hidden damage in the file. AccessFix is more thorough than the Microsoft Compact and Repair tool at finding and repairing binary problems in the Access file structure.
• In some instances the Image Form would fail to track a record selection in the Discs Form. The result was that the image shown in the Image form would not be the correct image for the record in the Discs Form. This issue appears to be a race condition. The tracking procedure used to synch the two forms was changed to reduce the frequency of this condition.

CHANGES TO THE REFERENCE CATALOG:  

Incremental reference updates DVDCAT140, DVDCAT141, DVDCAT142, DVDCAT143, and DVDCAT144 were incorporated.

KNOWN BUGS:  

The following bugs appear to be related to Vista Upgrades. These bugs do not occur when Vista is installed on a new PC or Vista is installed on a new hard or reformatted (aka clean install).

• The File>Movies to Discs command causes an error upon opening and reports an SQL issue.

The following bugs occur when Access 2007 is installed on Windows Vista. These bugs do not occur when Access 2007 is installed on Windows XP or when Access 2003 is installed on Vista.

• The File>Images Grid form causes Access 2007 to crash when the form is opened. There is no application level error message. This bug is caused by an incompatibility with the ImX Printer ActiveX Control used by the form. The work around is not to open the form in this configuration.

BUG FIXES:  

Images Grid:

• The Maximum number of pages shown in a print preview would not be correct (too large) if the number of titles in the catalog was smaller than the number of maximum images to be included in the grid. This condition is now correctly handled.
• If a printer is not installed on the PC, then a print grid command or print preview command would generate a buffer overflow error and the command would crash. The condition of no printer installed is now trapped and a more meaningful error message is generated.

Rapid Entry Form:

• When running under Access 2007, the various sub forms in the Rapid Entry Form would not synchronize correctly. This was corrected.
• When running under Access 2007, an error would occur when adding a title if there was only one matching title. This was corrected.
• When a search resulted in no records, two of the sub forms would not be updated and would continue to show results from a prior search. This was corrected.
• While a search is in progress a label is visible: “Searching the Reference Catalog..”

Images Form:

• In the following scenario, the Image Form would not open as expected:
  1. Open the File>Discs Form to a record that has cover art images
  2. Open the File>Images Form

  The Images form would open and the image frames would be shown as white and no image would be present. This would occur with Access 2003 and Access 2007. This would not occur with Access 2000. This issue is corrected.

Discs Form:

A File Not Found Error would occur when Images were displayed on the File>Discs Form moving form record to rrecord. This error is now trapped.

NEW FEATURES & MODIFICATIONS:

Images Form : The printer icon on the form that creates an insert was redesigned to create a single image file comprising the insert. Once the image file is created it is opened into IE. The DVD format is 10.75 inches wide and 5.25 inches high. The DVD format will print out on legal size paper. The LD format is 10.25 inches high ands 20.75 inches wide. The LD format requires a wide carriage printer that will print on poster paper. The HTML based report was removed. The spine is black and printed with the title and Version of the Disc. The file name is of the form “Insert_RecordID.jpg” where RecordID is a number that is the Record ID of the title in the personal catalog.

Discs Grid Form : The following changes were made to this form:

• The publishers combo field drop down list will show only publishers is the current catalog whether that be the personal catalog or the reference catalog.
• The Performers combo field drop down list was changed to be adaptive to the characters entered into the field. Once 3 or more characters are entered, the drop down will limit the list to performers that match on the entered characters of the last name.

Reports with Cover Art: The HTML Report writer was incorporated into the main application. The Access based reports that include cover art images were removed. The web based help for the HTML report writer was incorporated into the local HTML Help file. The setup was changed to remove the separate icon for the HTML Report Writer and the Report Writer application was removed from the setup.

Images Form : The printer icon on the form that creates an insert was redesigned to create an HTML report equivalent to the Access based report. The Access based report was removed.

Help: In order to accommodate the Windows Vista the Help file was migrated from the WinHelp platform to the HTMLHelp Platform. WinHelp is not supported in VISTA. All forms that have context sensitive help were changed to call the HTMLHelp file using either the F1 key or the dedicated help command button. The Help>Contents and Index command was adjusted to call the HTML Help file. HTML help is supported by Access 2000, Access XP, Access 2003, and Access 2007. The WinHelp file was re-authored to HTMLHelp using the HelpandManual application. The new help file is DVDReg.chm.

Live Update: The procedure used to import the available catalog updates was redesigned. Some users had reported that the procedure failed and prompted inappropriately for a parameter. This issue could not be replicated at the factory. The redesign is intended to avoid the condition that could cause the procedure to fail.

Printed Manual: The setup now installs a printed manual in the application folder. The printed manual is in Adobe Acrobat Format (PDF). The File is DVDReg.pdf.

About Form: The Help>About form was changed to recognize and report Access 2007 when opened

General: During the File>Import>Upgrade Your Discs… command the procedure attempts to locate the legacy location of the “Images” folder. If it cannot find the folder it queries the use to locate the folder.

Setup: The following changes were made to the setup procedure

• In order to accommodate the Windows Vista security and permission regimen, the setup location was moved to the Application Data folder for the current user.
• In order to accommodate Access 2007 a registry entry is made to set the application folder as a trusted location. This registry entry prevents a warning each time the database is opened. Another registry entry is created to turn-off sandbox mode for Access databases. This setting prevents Access from disabling Macros and VBA script in the application.
• The setup was changed to remove the WinHelp files and added the DVDReg.chm HTMLHelp file.
• The setup was changed so that the Install Shield installer inspects the Windows Registry to find any versions of MS Access that are installed. If there is more than one version, the installer selects the latest version to be the host for the DVD Register. The setup was changed to recognize Access 2007 as the latest version.
• Setup no longer supports installs on Windows 98 or Windows. The setup will work with Access 2000 if it is already installed on the PC but the setup does not support installing the run time version of Access 2000.

Options Form: A new option was added to the General Tab to set the default for the “Find” dialog.

The build includes a fresh make of the reference catalog db including all corrections made to the catalog since the first build of Release 1.23.8.01 in February 2006

Incremental reference updates DVDCAT128 through DVDCAT139 were incorporated.
