Older DVD Register Software 1.21.3, 1.21a, 1.21

Installation Instructions:

Click on the link to download the file to your PC.

• Move the download file to a temporary directory on your PC.
• You will need to unzip the file. The zip file requires a password to unpack.
• Run the Setup Application (setup.exe).
• Follow the instructions displayed in the setup procedure.

KNOWN BUGS:

• The application short-cut in the start menu (Start>Programs>DVD Register 1.21>DVD Register) will not be able to find the application file. On Some PCs, the setup procedure installs the application files with 8+3 file names and not long file names. The work around is to manually change the files names after the setup is complete. The default application folder can be found located at: C:\Program Files\Laser Disc Register\Release 1.21. Change the following file names (DO NOT include the quotation marks):
•  Dvdreg~1.mde to DVD Register.mde
•  Dvdreg~1.hlp to DVD Register.hlp
•  Dvdreg~1.cnt to DVD Register.cnt

BUG FIXES:

• When closing the application from the File>Exit command with the Rapid Entry form open, Error 91 No object or Block Value Set would occur. This error is now trapped and does not occur in this scenario.
• When designing a custom report, movie related fields would not be displayed for a specific movie in the report unless a theme was assigned to the movie. The report was changed so that a theme is not required for the display of other movie fields.
• When exporting a backup in the A97 version and in some recent versions of retail A2K, the backup would fail with the message The application encountered unexpected error #3114 with message string Can’t include Memo, OLE, or Hyperlink Object with you select unique values (Remark). The error would occur during the export of features. The export procedure was changed to not use unique values to avoid the error.
• When upgrading from Release 1.20, the image pointers would not be imported from the source db. This was a regression problem and the procedure was changed to import the pointers.

CHANGES TO THE REFERENCE CATALOG:

Incremental reference updates DVDCAT48, DVDCAT49, DVDCAT50, DVDCAT51 and DVDCAT52 were incorporated.  

Note: Some users have reported permission difficulty with the primary ftp download site. I have provided an alternate site for the download. The alternate site is not a production machine and may be up and down frequently.

Note: The Access 2000 and Access 97 versions provide the same features and functions. If you have already installed the retail version of Access 2000 on your PC, then you should download the Access 2000 version of the DVD Register. The Access 2000 download does not contain the Access 2000 run-time client due to the large size of the the Access 2000 run time install pack. To obtain the Access 2000 run-time client you will need to order a CD-R Online by Credit Card, Order By Telephone or FAX, or Order by Mail and Pay by Check.

BUG FIXES:

• Feature links to features created by a user would not be restored by the File>Import>Backup command. Feature links to factory provided features are imported correctly. The bug exists in Releases 1.17, 1.17a, 1.18, 1.19, 1.19a, and 1.20. The work around for this issue in the older releases is to restore the back up twice. On the first time the user created features are imported. On the second time the links to these features are successfully imported. This bug is corrected.
• A difference in the behavior of the A97 and A2K versions occurs when right clicking on forms. On the A2k version, no pop-up menu would appear. The following forms now have pop-up menus in both versions:

• Discs Form
• Discs Grid
• Movies Form
• Movies Form 2
• Movies Grid
• Publishers
• Talent
• Languages

The following forms have no pop-up in both versions:

• Genre
•  Rapid Entry
• Live Update
• Pop-up Progress
• Custom Report Design
• About
• Options
  
• Right clicking on the custom report would not open the short-cut menu. This short-cut menu was added.
• When exiting the application an Error message occurs Property ‘Form’ not  found. This condition occurs when several forms are open on the application desk top and one or more of the forms contain records with unsaved edits. This error is now trapped.
• The login name is not imported in an upgrade. This bug exists in Releases 1.18, 1.19, and 1.20. This bug is corrected.
• The Preorder Refresh Flag was not being imported during an upgrade from Releases 1.20 and 1.21. This bug is corrected.
• The import backup now correctly handles factory themes and factory performers that have been deleted from the user catalog, Previously if a user had deleted these links, the deleted links would reappear when a backup was imported into a freshly installed factory database.
• The #3075 Syntax Error would occur when the Movies Form would open and the first title in My Catalog did not have a linked movie. This condition is now trapped and the Movies Form opens showing a blank new record.
• The error message when importing a backup file from a different release was changed to add a help button and to provide a hint on how to upgrade from a previous release.
• The help topic for Pre-order was changed to clarify the need for the UPC filed to be completed for a match to occur.
• The footer on the One Movie per Page report was changed from The Laser Disc Register to The DVD Register.

NEW FEATURES & MODIFICATIONS:

My Catalog Form:

The version field was made sensitive to the type of disc. The content of the drop down lists depends upon whether the disc is a DVD or an LD. 

 Matrixed Surround was added to the drop down list for the Surround Field on the LD Tab.

 Special Widescreen Edition was added to the version drop field down and the drop down list shows in alphabetic order

A sizing change was made to the Version and Version notes fields.

My Movies or Programs Form:

An order field was added to the Themes subform. This integer field can be used to rank multiple themes. Themes are sorted in the subform based upon this order. If the order field is not used, then the themes will be displayed in a random order.

The counter in the themes subform is automatically populated with the number of the current row when a new form is added. If a value is already present in the order field then no change will be made when the theme is changed. 

Discs Grid Form:

The form was changed to provide an option to view the reference catalog in grid format. The form can be changed from Mine to All. When resizing the form vertically the grid subform is also resized. 

A filter control grouping was added to the form. The filter control group can define and apply a filter of the either my catalog or the reference catalog based upon Disc Type, Classification, Theme,  Publisher, Director, and Performer.

Movies or Programs Grid Form

A command button was added to the form to list the discs containing the selected feature. The command works for both My Catalog and the Reference Catalog. When resizing the form vertically the grid subform is also resized. 

A filter control grouping was added to the form. The filter control group can define and apply a filter of the reference catalog based upon Classification, Theme, Director, and Performer.

Reports: 

The custom report was changed so that the First Theme will select the theme with Order 1. If there is no order then the First Theme will be a random selection among the themes listed.

The Discs: One Title per Page report was changed to show:

• The graphic icon beside each audio channel listed on the DVD.
• The MPAA rating is shown as an icon. The MPAA label was removed.
• The Closed caption check box was changed to a CC Icon for both LD and DVD.
• The CX check box was changed to a CX Icon for LD.
• The THX rated mastering is now shown as an icon for both LD and DVD.
• The DVD Aspect Ratio was changed to graphically show the aspect ratio by means of the outline of the ratio number.
• The DVD subtitle list was changed to remove the shading outlines

• The disc type ICON DVD Video or LaserDisc is shown to the left of the title

The Movies: One Title per Page report was changed to show:

• The MPAA rating in shown as an icon. The MPAA label was removed.

The Compact Listing was changed to show:

• The Closed caption check box was changed to a CC Icon for both LD and DVD.
• The THX rated mastering is now shown as an icon for both LD and DVD.
• Field alignment was changed to make a more pleasing layout

New Report: 5 per Page wt Images A new report was added that lists five titles per page and includes two imagers per title. This report can take a very long time to display and print due to the processing of the image files.

The Discs Technical Specifications was changed to show:

• The Closed caption check box was changed to a CC Icon for both LD and DVD.
• The CX check box was changed to a CX Icon for LD.

Pop-up Progress:

The default when the form open is changed to show the details. Previously the default was to hide details.

Languages Form:

When resizing the form vertically the grid subform is also resized.

Options: 

The refresh procedure under the Maintenance Tab was changed to use UPC as the primary relation to match titles in My Catalog to the Reference Catalog and then use the hidden link created by the Rapid Entry Wizard. If a potential refresh would change the Disc Type, then that title is removed from the refresh list.

General:

During an upgrade procedure from Release 1.17 thru 1.20, the explicit theme order (a.k.a. priority) is assigned based upon the order present in the source database. For Release 1.21 and later, the explicit theme order field is used to determine the ordering of the themes.

The procedure for importing reference catalog updates was changed to provide enhanced forward compatibility for future additions of new fields to the database schema.

A warning in the setup says that a re-install will over write your catalog.

The speed of the upgrade procedure application to Releases 1.17, 1.18, 1.19, and 1.20 was improved for the portion of the upgrade of Performers and Themes.

CHANGES TO THE REFERENCE CATALOG:

Incremental reference updates DVDCAT44, DVDCAT45, DVDCAT46, and DVDCAT47 were incorporated 

Technical data for about 160 features was updated.

10 duplicate or orphan features were deleted from the reference catalog.
