Revision Notes: The DVD Register, Release 1.23.5.05  (Fifth Build)  - Built June 22, 2004

KNOWN BUGS:

BUG FIXES:

NEW FEATURES & MODIFICATIONS:

General:

The help file was undated to include a topic on Medial Library support and other topics were modified to show revised forms and commands.

Image Form:

The ImgX library that provides the underlying functionality of the form was updated from Release 3 to Release 6. The form now makes use of the external ImgX image control, which replaces the Microsoft provided image control.

The capability to pan the images if it is bigger than the image form was added. The option to set the behavior of the form whether clipped or scaled was moved from Tools>Options to the top of the form with the following choices: Best Fit, Full Size, Fit to Width, Fit to Height. A change to the default scaling option is immediate and does not require that the form be closed and reopened. The capability to zoom in or zoom out on the image was added. The three-command button to manually insert images from a file was replaced with a single combo box to save space on the form. The option to smooth (anti-aliasing) the displayed image, which reduces scaling artifacts, was added. The capability to copy from the image form to the clipboard was added. The copy to clipboard capability eliminated the need for the “Paste Special” command, which was removed. The procedure to move an image from one record to another is now “Cut” or “Copy” and then “Paste.” The settings of the from including the “anti-aliasing”, “scaling”, and “zoom mode” is saved when the form is closed and these option are restored when the form is opened.

Custom Report:

A new command button was added to the custom report design form to display a grid view rather than a report preview. Any report that can be designed can also be viewed as a read-only grid. You might think of the grid view as a custom query. A new command was added to the File Menu to show the most recent grid view that was displayed from the Report Design Form. If no grid has ever been displayed the user is asked if they want to open the Report Design Form. The grid view is read-only.

A new command button was added to the View>Report menu button to show the last custom report that was displayed from the Custom Report Design Form. This permits the user to show a favorite custom report without opening the Custom Report Design Form and navigating to the desired custom report.

In prior releases, during the creation of a custom report, a scratch table was created to serve as the data source for the custom report. In this release, the source of the custom report or grid was changed to a saved query. This new approach has the advantage that when the “last” grid view or custom report is run from the command menu, the contents of the grid or report is based upon the most current data in the user catalog. Not using a scratch table also tends to reduce database bloating reducing the need to compact the catalog.

A new format was added to a Custom Report Field of “Literal”. This format causes an apostrophe “’” to be added to the front of the field. For example value XXX will appear in the report as ‘XXX. The literal format can be used to circumvent string values from being converted to numeric type fields when exporting the report to Excel. For example, the initial 0’s in a UPC code are removed when the data is imported into Excel.   The [UPC 11] field was added to the list of fields that can be assigned to a Disc Custom report. The [RecordID] fields was added to the list of the fields that can be assigned to a Feature Custom Report.

Discs Form:

A new capability was added to the application to interface with a DACAL CD-101 or CD-300 Intelligent Media Library. DACAL is a Taiwanese Manufacturer or plastic injection molded products. Various distributors and Internet retailers sell the product in the USA. The media library or carousel contains slots for 150 12 cm discs such as DVDs. The device has a USB interface to a PC and can respond to commands from the PC to select a particular slot and eject a disk. Each device contains a single port USB hub and several devices can be linked in a daisy chain. DVD collectors use the device to store DVDs for their home theater to reduce the volume taken by individual cases.

A new command button was added to the Discs Form toolbar to request that the current title be ejected from the carousel. This presumes that the location of the title is entered into the catalog at the time that the carousel is loaded. The title location consists of a value in the format of [Unit:]  & slot where the optional unit value refers to identification of the carousel where there may be more than one and the slot refers to the location inside of the distinguished carousel. A colon is used between the unit and slot designation. If only one carousel is connected to the PC then the unit number and colon may be omitted.

The location field is the default location to enter the unit:slot designation. However the Tools>Options:Devices form may be used to designate either Custom 1 of Custom 4 to be used to record this data if the user has dedicated the location field to another purpose. There is also a diagnostic button on the tab to test communications with the media library device.

In the case that a title is a box set with the media count field > 1 then a small pop-up form will appear providing a method to select the volume of the box set to be ejected. If the media count is null or = 1 then the pop-up will not appear.

With using a DACAL media library the format of supported unit<delimiter>slot was changed so that the delimiter could be a “:” (colon), “.” (dot), “-“ (Dash). The optional image display was changed to use the ImgX6.4 control replacing the MS Forms 2.0 Image Control. The Article Field was changed so that it is not limited to the drop down list on the LD, DVD, and Notes tabs.

Talent Form:

A command button was added to the talent form both on the Performers Tab and the Directors Tab. The added button searches for starring or directed programs. The older command button searched for starring or directed discs. A double click on the performer or director name launches the new search format for movies of programs. The movies and programs are listed in reverse chronological order.

Options Form:

The Options Form, Devices Tab was changed to add a new command to administer multiple external media library devices. A new form is provided to assign the unit number (alias) for each external device connected to the PC when more than one device is connected. This mapping information is stored in the Windows Registry. When an eject request is made, the procedure checks to see how many devices are connected. If only one device is connected then the procedure ignores the unit value if entered into the field and only deals with the slot number. If more then one device is connected the procedure checks to see if a mapping is provided in the Windows Registry. If so then the Registry entry is used to resolve the target Machine ID. If the mapping is not found, then the user is prompted whether they want to set up a mapping for multiple devices.

The Options Form, Images Tab was changed to remove the legacy options to set the zoom or clip settings. These setting are now controlled directly on the images form itself and are no longer needed on the option form. A new command was added to the Images Tab to delete all of the links from the catalog to the external image files. This command is useful to users who have lost their images and need to reload them fro the web server. Otherwise the image links would need to be deleted individually.

The Options Form, Trouble Shooting tab was changed to include two new command buttons to upload either the full catalog database file or a backup of the catalog to the factory server. These commands provide a more convenient method for users to submit files for factory service.

Disc FormRapid Web Form:

The image icons were changed to use the ImgX6.4 control replacing the MS Forms 2.0 Image Control

Reports:

A new report format called the “Coffee Table” report was added under the View>Reports>Discs menu. This report provides a single disc title per page with the majority of the page devoted to the cover art. This report does not inherit the current filter or sort and is sorted alphabetically.

CHANGES TO THE REFERENCE CATALOG:

Incremental reference updates DVDCAT100, DVDCAT101, DVDCAT102, DVDCAT103, and  DVDCAT104 were incorporated.
