Revision Notes: The DVD Register, Release 1.23.4 (First Build) - Built February 22, 2004
This
release was created to update the reference catalog and has no code changes from
Release 1.23.2. The reference catalog was a full rebuild and contains all
corrections made to the reference catalog since Release 1.23.1 2nd
build in July 2003. Otherwise this is a patch build. The Access 2003
install packs are built with the Install Shield Installer. The Access 2002 and
2000 packs are built with the classic Package and Deployment Wizard.
BUG
FIXES:
Some
table level integrity constraints had gone missing from the Reference Catalog
tables. Normally these constraints would not affect user operations. A total of
seven such constraints were recreated in this build.
CHANGES TO THE REFERENCE CATALOG:
Incremental reference updates DVDCAT96, and DVDCAT97, DVDCAT98, and DVDCAT99 were incorporated.

Revision Notes: The DVD Register, Release 1.23.2 (First Build) - Built November 24, 2003
KNOWN
BUGS:
BUG
FIXES:
Error 2114: DVD Register doesn't support the format of the file 'C:\Program Files\Laser Disc Register\Release xxx\..\Images\xxxx-A.jpg.' so it can't load the picture. This error occurs on a PC that does not have a copy of the JPEG graphics filter. The setup procedure now installs this file on the target PC.
NEW
FEATURES & MODIFICATIONS:
General:
The setup now installs the Access 2003 (or Access 2002) runtime and is based upon the Install Shield Express 5 product. Prior setup versions used the Microsoft provided Package and Deployment Wizard. The Install Shield product produces a Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) setup.
The application is unchanged except the About form was revised to show the new release. Due to the limitation of Access 2003, this version requires Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, Windows XP, or Windows 2003. Access 2003 cannot be installed on Windows 95, 98, ME, or NT.
CHANGES
TO THE REFERENCE CATALOG:
Incremental
reference updates DVDCAT91, and DVDCAT92, DVDCAT93, DVDCAT94 and DVDCAT95 were incorporated.

DVD Register, Release
1.23.1 (Fifth Build)
- Built October 6, 2003

BUGS:
BUG
FIXES:
When
only a front image was available from the web catalog, it would be
downloaded but would fail to be linked to the local personal catalog. The
linking code was fixed to work as expected if some but not all images types
are available on the web catalog.
When
an image was manually linked by using the command button on the image form,
a permission error would occur if the image was located in the target image
folder. A file cannot be copied to itself. This condition is trapped and the
permission error does not occur.
When
Live Update processed approximately 20 updates it would generate an error
message that a “value was too long for this property” and would fail.
This condition is trapped and the error does not occur.
When
Live Update processed more than 10 updates, the window would fill with text
and the new progress trace messages would not be visible. The trace messages
now are written with the most recent message at the top of the window so
that the older messages move down in the list. The currents message is
always visible at the top of the window. The trace message was changed to
show the number of titles added in each individual update when an individual
update is completed.
The
“Read License” button on the Help>About Form returned an error
message that it could not find the help file. This bug was corrected.
The
“Read Me” button on the Help>About Form returned an error message on
PCs running Windows 2000 and Windows that it could not fine the target file.
The button was changed to launch WordPad from the correct location on
Win2000.
When
switching between the “Mine” and “All” options, the talent names
would not be shown in alphabetic order when one selected “All” then
“Mine” and then “All”. This was corrected so that the order is
always shown as alphabetic by default when clicking on “Mine” or
“All” in any sequence.
The
Tool>Options:Images command to audit images failed to process C-Type
(Gatefold) images. The procedure has been changed to process C-Type images.
NEW
FEATURES & MODIFICATIONS:
General:
The
File>Import>Backup procedures was changed to permit a backup created in
Release 1.21.x to be imported into Release 1.23. This provides an alternate
method to migrate data from Release 1.21 to Release 1.23.
The
so-called “Reference Catalog” user was removed. This user has not been
supported since Release 1.21.5. This function is now provided by the web based
reference catalog.
A
new command was added to the Application Shortcuts in the Start Menu “Compact
Your Catalog”. This shortcut opens the DVD Register Compact Toolkit. This
toolkit provides a simplified method (in comparison to the Jet Compact/Repair
Tool) to compact the DVDR catalog or any other Access db file.
The
DVDR code was ported from Data Access Objects (DAO) to ActiveX Data Objects
(ADO). This port procedure caused code changes in the majority of modules and
procedures. Support for Access97 version of the application stop with this
release because Access97 is not compatible with ADO.
The
help file was updated.
Discs
Form:
A
new attribute “Packaging” was added to the LD Tab and the DVD Tab as a drop
down list.
A
new attribute “Media Count” was added to the DVD Tab.
The
“Date Issued” field replaces the “Year Issued Field. The “Date Issued”
field is a Date/Time type field. The “Year Issued” field was a text type
field. Sorts on the “Date Issued” field will sort the field in correct
chronological order and the field will inherit the format defined in the Windows
Short Date Format. During an upgrade from a previous release the “Year
Issued” attribute is converted into the “Date Issued” field for “My
Catalog”. During an upgrade the data in the Year Issued field is converted to
the Date Issued field if it a valid date format. A year YYYY is converted to
12/31/YYYY. Field values that do not match these formats are not converted.
If
the UPC field is empty, then the insertion point is set to the first character
in the field when the field is selected.
The
format of the Date Issued field was changed to Left Justify.
The
article field on the File>Discs Form was changed to accept values other than
provided in the drop down list.
Discs
Grid:
The
“Date Issued” field replaces the “Year Issued” Field.
About
Form:
If
the serial number field is empty, then the insertion point is set to the first
character in the field when the field is selected.
Image
Form:
A
tabbed control was added to the images form. The Gatefold image was added to Tab
2. The Front and Back Images appear on Tab 1. The Gatefold image is downloaded
from the web catalog both in single record mode and bulk image mode.
A
print button was added to the form. The button opens a report in preview that
prints an approximation of the cover insert for Keep Case (a.k.a.
Amaray Case).
Reports:
The
“Date Issued” field replaces the “Year Issued” field on the reports
where the “Year Issued” field previously occurred.
A
new custom report was added under View>Reports>Movies>Custom… This
new report is similar in most respects to the prior existing custom report
except that it is movie or program oriented rather than disc oriented. This
custom report will list all movies even if they are included box sets or
individual programs included in a series compilation disc. If a Movie filter is
active the Movie Custom Report will inherit the active filter. The older disc
oriented customer report was moved to appear in
View>Reports>Discs>Custom…
Rapid
Web:
The
“Omit LD” option was removed from the Web Tools Tab. The bulk download
procedure was changed to make it more efficient by generating fewer individual
transactions against the server thus reducing the server load generated by this
procedure.
A
new command was added to the “Trouble Shooting Tab”. This command deletes
the local copy of the reference catalog producing a much more compact file. This
procedure results in a so-called “Thin-Client” that relies on the reference
catalog located on the web server. The personal catalog is preserved in this
procedure. The menus are modified to remove the “Rapid Entry” form, “Live
Update” form and other forms that are related only the local reference
catalog. With a “Thin-Client” it is not necessary to download and apply
periodic updates to the reference catalog. It is possible to convert a
“Thin-Client” to a classic version by imported from the “Thin-Client”
into a factory fresh catalog.
Rapid
Entry:
When
searching by UPC, the search includes a table of alternate UPCs, where a title
is known to have been issued with alternate UPCs and no other known variation.
Updates to alternate UPCs are now included in the update file. When a reference
title is added to your catalog, the root UPC is added and not the alternate UPC.
The
behavior of the “Full Title” field in the grid subforms was changed to
reduce the delay in painting this field when the scroll bar control is used to
move the scan the grid.
The
number of matching titles was increased from 25 to 50.
The
Reference Catalog Grid was changed to add the “Version” attribute to the
grid.
Your
Discs Grid:
The
“Version” attribute replaces the “Audio Encoding” attribute for this
form.
Options:
Under
the ‘Conversion Utilities” Tab, a command button was added to provide a
conversion procedure from 1.23 table formats to 1.21 table formats. Once such a
conversion is completed, the modified catalog can be used as the source of a
File>Import>Upgrade Yours Discs procedure. This permits a beta tester of
Release 1.23 to go backwards, release wise, to Release 1.21.x. Once the
conversion is completed then the modified 1.23 catalog cannot be used as a 1.23
catalog due to the inconsistent table formats.
CHANGES
TO THE REFERENCE CATALOG:
The
new “Packaging”, “Date Issued”, and “Media Count” attributes were
populated in the Reference Catalog.
Approximately
2,000 LD covers were physically inspected and corrections were made to these
titles
Incremental
reference updates DVDCAT86, and DVDCAT87, DVDCAT88, DVDCAT 89 and DVDCAT90 were incorporated.
For
about 100 titles that were cataloged with an initial article in a non-English
language (e.g. Le, La, Les, Il, I’, El, Das), the article was moved to the
Article field. This adjustment makes the treatment of Disc Titles match the
method used for Movie titles.

BUGS:
Unchanged
from the Release 1.21.4 first build.
BUG
FIXES:
When
installing from CD on a PC running Windows 98 or Windows Me, the setup would
report that the “Office System Pack” was required and then the setup would
fail. The setup procedure on CD was changed to automatically install the
“Office System Pack” if needed. The setup will also install Internet
Explorer 5.0 if an earlier version is not installed on the PC.
When
installing the Access 2000 runtime on a PC, the setup would report that it was
invoked with incorrect arguments and would fail A message would indicate that
a reboot is necessary but the behavior of the setup would not be changed by
the reboot. The setup CD now contains an install pack for Windows Installer
2.0. The later version of Windows Installer corrects the issue that causes the
DVDR setup to fail.
